Who we support

Since our start in 2020, we have raised $8,091, organized three rallies, run three community drives, participated in eight markets, and handmade over 10 original products. Most importantly, we have developed meaningful relationships with Ji-gaabiikwe, Naneek, and other community organizers who guide our work and allow us the privilege of journeying alongside them.

Heater Bloc Victoria

Total fundraised to date: $461

Heater Bloc Victoria is a "mutual aid collective in unceded lək̓ʷəŋən Territory making space heaters for people living on the margins and facing the cold every night."

What: Copper coil space heaters (alcohol based) with 3D printed base, wire fencing, and terra cotta pot lids. They automatically extinguish when tilted.

Why: Roughly 1,600 houseless people in Victoria, not enough shelters in the winter leaving folks with no option but to sleep outside, freezing.

Palestinian GoFundMes

Total fundraised to date: $520

Palestinian GoFundMe campaigns are critical for providing resources like medical care, food, and education to Palestinians, who face daily hardships under Israel's occupation. These efforts enable people worldwide to support Palestinian resilience, highlighting the principle that none of us are free until Palestine is free, and allowing for global solidarity in advocating for human rights and justice.

Ji-gaabiikwe

Total fundraised to date: $2,295

Ji-gaabiikwe is the founder of Kayâs-isîhcikêwin  (Cree for the old ways of doing things), a non-profit ensuring "Indigenous children, youth, and adults are given the opportunity to heal from intergenerational trauma by restoring, revitalizing, and reclaiming their Indigenous traditions, customs, ceremonies, and languages." She is an intergenerational residential school survivor, a 60s scoop survivor, and a single mother of one living in "Regina". I (Kayla) had the privilege of working for and being mentored by Ji-gaabiikwe for the summer of 2020. Since then, we have continued journeying alongside Ji-gaabiikwe by supporting her programming and learning about Indigenous resurgence and the role that allies play.

Naneek

Total fundraised to date: $1,411

Naneek is a Two Spirit, Indigiqueer activist located in so-called "Vancouver". My sister (Hailey) and I met Naneek during the #SaveFairyCreek campaign back in 2019/2020 to protect BC's last remaining 2.7% of active old growth, but more specifically, the Fairy Creek watershed located on unseeded Pacheedaht and Ditidaht land. Naneek lived at Fairy Creek as a land defender for many weeks and has since focused their energy on organizing on Vancouver's downtown eastside to support at-risk, precariously housed, and otherwise equity-deserving Indigenous youth. They frequently run gear drives/distributions, contribute to art installations, and create space for Indigenous community members to gather for ceremonies, to enjoy food, make art, learn about traditional medicines.

Ada'itsx/Fairy Creek

Total fundraised: $2,243

The Fairy Creek Blockade was a grassroots protest on Vancouver Island, initiated in 2020, to prevent the logging of old-growth in the Fairy Creek watershed, one of Canada's last remaining ancient forests. The protest drew widespread attention and became the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history with over 1,200 arrests. The overwhelming amount of police violence at the blockade, specifically towards BIPOC activists, sparked a broader conversation on defunding the police, Indigenous land rights, and sustainable forestry practices in so-called Canada.

Care Canada

Total fundraised: $200

CARE Canada is a humanitarian organization dedicated to reducing global poverty and contributing to social injustice, with a focus on empowering women and girls. It provides emergency relief, long-term development projects, and advocacy programs that support communities in need, primarily in areas affected by conflict, climate crises, and economic instability.

Covenant House BC

Total fundraised: $600

Covenant House BC provides shelter, food, and support services to houseless and at-risk youth in Vancouver, helping them build stability and independence. The organization offers counseling, job training, and educational programs, fostering a safe and supportive environment for young people facing difficult life circumstances.

Hogan's Alley Society

Total fundraised: $300

Hogan’s Alley Society in Vancouver works to preserve and revitalize the history, culture, and identity of Black communities in the area, particularly advocating for affordable housing, community spaces, and economic opportunities for Black residents. The organization also collaborates with local governments and groups to address systemic racism and promote inclusive city planning.
