Tāpākōmitowin
July 2022-2024
This annual, intergenerational, week long gathering is organized by Ji-gaabiikwe. Here, Indigenous youth have the opportunity to learn from Elders, sleep in tipis, and exist in a space created for and by Indigenous people. We feel so grateful to have been invited into this space and for the ability to continue walking alongside
Ji-gaabiikwe and support her work.
Community Garage Sale
April, 2024
A garage sale to re-home all of our belongings before graduating and moving! We were able to re-home SO much furniture, clothing, art supplies, home decor and jewelry!! What we weren’t able to sell was given away and donated appropriately. We were also able to fill the KW Community Fridge with some goodies too. And to help other graduates re-home their belongings, we created a resource in collaboration with Michelle from the Climate Justice Ecosystem.
We also collected specific donations from community members for O:se Kenhionhata:tie & Fight Back KW. We received many generous donations from the community like cleaning supplies, food, toiletries, and menstral hygiene products. We had a bit of funding left from @laurierstudentspirg so we spent it on two $20 gift cards to add to the donation pile.

Fall Clothing Drive
November, 2023
In support of Your Downtown Guelph Friends work supporting folks experiencing housing insecurity in Guelph, we collected donations from across KW, Guelph, and the GTA. All donations were sorted and donated for distribution.
CJE's Rally for Climate Justice
September, 2023
The University of Waterloo Climate Justice Ecosystem is an independent, grassroots coalition aiming to build and mobilize student power for an intersectional movement towards a sustainable, resilient, and just UWaterloo for everyone.
Of the many social justice-esque groups I (Kayla) have been a part of and even led, this one stands out to me largely because of Michelle & Celine’s leadership. They have taught me so much about what it means to fight for environmental justice in a good way. Since the summer, a group of about 30 students joined to organize this rally and build an affirming, vibrant, and passionate community. Though I have graduated and am not a part of this coalition anymore, their work continues to push for climate justice throughout the Waterloo region.

Gidinawendamin/Ska’nikú•lát 20th Annual Pow Wow
September, 2023
This Annual Pow Wow is organized and run by @wisc_uw &
@uwaterlooindigenous filled with dancing, food, activities, and vendors!
I (Kayla) attended my first Pow Wow in Regina with Ji-gaabiikwe in 2020 to celebrate Buffalo Day (Canada Day). It was a really fun, beautiful, and impactful experience for me that I look back on fondly. I had never attended this one before so I was really excited to see how the Waterloo community comes together and for the opportunity to fundraise for Ji-gaabiikwe & Naneek.
Distribution in Vancouver's DTES
August, 2023
As a response to the horrifying street sweeps during a heatwave conducted by the VPD, we supported calls for action from groups such as @Defund604, @dtes_nh, @kilalalelum, and @distro_disco. We distributed 75+ frozen waterbottles and 100+ healthy snacks directly to community members. The snacks and cart we used were generously donated by ShareWares.

Whistler Community Garage Sale
May, 2023
This community event is hosted every six months by Aware in the Creekside Underground. It's such a simple event, but a beautiful way to bring the community torgether, promote the circular economy, raise money for Whistler's sustainability initatives, divert waste from the landfill, and with many residents living there seasonally - there's a constant flow of people moving in and out, creating a frequent need to rehome items.
Winter Donation Drive
December, 2022
In support of Fight Back KW's work supporting folks experiencing housing insecurity in Kitchener-Waterloo's, we collected donations from across KW, Guelph, and the GTA. All donations were sorted and distributed to our neighbours in Willow Park.

Protest to Protect BC's Old Growth
July, 2021
On July 24th 2021, the Sea to Sky community came together at Whistler‘s Olympic Village Plaza in solidarity with the Fairy Creek blockade. We were blown away by the incredible turn out, impactful speakers, engaged community members, and the supportive response from the general Whistler Village - everyone clapping and cheering as we marched through.
This protest was actually three parts: (1) Banner drop in Squamish, (2) Protest and march in Whistler, & (3) Public messages to MLA Jordan Sturdy in Pemberton.
